Dear CJ Band family,
Within the last couple of weeks there has been quite a change in the band world and competitive marching band. Over the last two weeks, I have been in many discussions with area band directors from the Fourstate area, state/national music educator associations and our own administration. Due to the large number of students and traveling for marching band festivals, many of the states and schools have moved to a non-competitive format for this fall. Even the Tournament of Roses Parade has been cancelled for this year. This has led to most of the marching festivals in the area and across the state to cancel. We as a band staff and administration have decided to also move to a non-competitive format for this fall and cancel the CJ Marching Festival for 2020. Parkview(Valhalla) has already been canceled and Carthage Mapleleaf is TBD. We will work towards a collegiate type marching show for our home football games. We are still in the planning stages and with that are making changes to band camp.
Here is our plan for the next two weeks.
July 27 – Section leaders/drum majors (only)- leadership training 8am-3pm inside (lunch on your own 11-12)
July 28 – Section leaders/drum majors (only)- leadership training only 8am-3pm(lunch on your own 11-12)
July 29- Seniors meet with Mr. Schneider 9am-11am(ish)(will only be in the morning to discuss this fall)
July 30-31 – no band camp for anyone
August 3rd – Band camp at the stadium 6pm-8:30pm (outside only/sectionals); Please drop off around back of school by the stadium.
Band parent meeting in the HS gym 7pm
August 4th – Band camp at the stadium 6pm-8:30pm (outside only/sectionals). Please drop off around back of school by the stadium.
August 6th – Band camp at the stadium 6pm-8:30pm (outside only/sectionals). Please drop off around back of school by the stadium.
We will be working on procedures for camp, but students will be asked to not enter the building except for bathrooms or refill water at water stations(no water fountains available). We encourage students to drink lots of water leading up to camp and not just the day of or day before. At camp, we ask that students bring their own bottles of water, camelbacks, etc. Band Boosters may still do a concessions with snacks for breaks(TBD). At this time masks are not mandatory, but recommended. We will work to keep social distancing as best as possible with 160+ students.
We are constantly learning more daily and things are changing daily. We will know more as the school develops a plan over the next couple weeks. I plan to share through the CJ Band Booster Facebook page and emails as I gather more information.
I apologize for any inconvenience in scheduling, but we are making the best decisions we can with the information we have.
Hope you and your families are well and safe.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at [email protected]
Have a blessed day,
Scott Schneider
